1. De-clutter and de-personalize
Most importantly, when you’re staging your home, you need to make sure you get rid of the clutter and many of the personally identifying details. The point of staging your home is to make it so all potential buyers could imagine their families living in your home. It’s harder for them to do that if it’s full of familial artifacts and is clearly your home.
Make sure the colors and styles you use for your furnishings are as neutral as possible. This goes along with the first tip. People are imagining this as their future home, so you should make it as amenable to that idea as possible. This may mean painting rooms in beige and similar colors that allow a wide range of people to see that their furniture and belongings would fit well in your house. Of course, buying paint isn’t super cheap, but if you paint the room yourself, you will save a lot of money.
3. Rearrange rooms
A free way to enhance the staging of your home is by rearranging the furniture you already have. Just because this is the way your house has always been doesn’t mean you can’t change it up as you prepare to sell it. Keep in mind that although it may seem counterintuitive, have furniture “floating” in the middle of rooms instead of anchored to the walls to create the illusion of more space.
4. Highlight artwork
Much of people’s artwork is placed along the same horizontal line, but the way to really draw attention to your impeccable taste is by varying this pattern. Notice what happens when you switch it up and create different patterns.
5. Pay attention to lighting
Lastly, another quick, cheap way to stage your home is to pay attention to how the lighting interacts with the colors of the walls and furniture in the room. If you want to change the way a room feels, you can change the type of light bulb you use in the lamp or overhead lighting of the room.
